Sun
is rising or is it setting
It
matters not to the whale in the glow
Of
living life to the fullest with every breech

Then
up again it soars breaking through the surface
Of
the sea in full magnificent God given glory

Humpback
whales live in regions of the sea
Warm
water and climate areas for nursing babies
Birthing
newborns and then it’s time to migrate
North
to colder waters in the Arctic areas
Where
food is plentiful and spaces wide
The
places where whales love to play
Breach
high into the sky and swim on their hind sides
Humpback
whales need to protect against the
onslaught
of orca killer whales
Orca
whales love to feed on straggler baby humpbacks
Who
don’t take proper refuge near their mothers

Male
whales are the singing ones with lovely songs
The
songs can be heard miles away under the sea
And
above the surface too
Songs
that are beautiful and exotic like other worldly
Outer
space
Whales
use songs to speak to other whales
To
share information about their world
Perhaps
to mark their territorial grounds
To
keep other whales from coming around
Unless
the whales are family
Whales
they wish to see or impress
Or
other reasons yet to be discovered
Songs
are sincere from the heart of the humpback

sure enough

Whale Fishing Bubble Nets
There
are some humpback whales who have learned
From
their parents how to fish with bubble nets
Humpbacks
blow the bubble net into the area
Where
fish are centered for a hunt to go well
The
bubble net is in the shape and form with
Circular
patterns that confuse and confound the prey
Fish
gather close together thinking they can’t escape
Then
become diner for the humpback whales
Dolphins
too practice this art of bubble net fishing
From
time to time along with sonar to stun the prey
Humpback
Whale~Poems by Laurel Marie Sobol
17
Humpbacks
likely use their low frequency sounds to
do
the same thing by stunning their prey
Before
consuming large amounts of fish
Energetic
and acrobatic playful whales are these
Gentle
Goliaths that make the world a better place
Just
because they are here
On
their back or flapping their tails these gentle giants
Tell
a tale of glee and happiness in the whale tale
Smooth
swimmers, sleek and lovely
Moving
through the world’s seas like battle ships
Of
the deep
They
have a mission they have a purpose
Humpback
Whale~Poems by Laurel Marie Sobol
18
To
live life to the fullest and product babies
To
live in life with harmony among the whales
And
other sea animals of the world
Humpback
whales stay in the womb a year
And
nurse for a year so much like people
Except
whales stay in the womb 3 months longer
Than
mere mortal men and women do when in utero
Babies
are cherished by the herd
Especially
mother whales who protect their young
Keep
them going right along
Mother
whales help their young make the migratory
trip
up north to healthy feeding grounds

Providing
food in abundance for these gentle giants
Who
otherwise could not feed in the warmer climes of
southern
shores and seas for lack of food sourcing
To
feed
Summer
feeding grounds in polar regions is the time
spent
of humpback whales
Until
colder weather sets in and migratory routes
begin
again to warmer water and seas globally
8,000
miles long migratory trips are sometimes taken
By
these Goliaths for when nature calls the whales
come
Upon
the migratory circuit run
Part
of their life part of their heritage
Humpback
Whale~Poems by Laurel Marie Sobol

Bubble
nets work best with three or more whales
Working
together to gather fish to eat
Down
they dive way low
Then
find their prey of fish from below
Then
up the whales go so fast
Blowing
their bubble net into the school of fish
Who
get caught up in the bubble net
Soon
to be in the whales stomachs
So
fast and accurate are the tactics used
The
school of fish never know what hit
They
are consumed in a flash of light
And
will nourish the gentle giants another day
Perhaps
most intriguing of all is this
The
humpback whale works as a team member
In
it’s circle of whale pod from where it lives

Humpback

Why
the breaching happens is not hard to understand
Whales
breach during courtship rituals to attract
females
Males
breach to warn the herd and Pod of dangers it
can
see with head Held high above the sea as he lunges
into
the sky
Sometimes
these whales breach to ward off dangers
during
the escorting
Females
to the northern seas in search
Of
food and nourishment
Males
who are escorting females who
Are
breeding are most effective
In
lunging at objects in the sea
Threats
like big vessels in the way
Male
propriety goes a long long way
Females
are beautiful and worth

Protection

Humpback
whales
Whales
have been known to
Breach
over a hundred times
In
just over an hour’s time
No
small feat considering the load
Whales
tend to breach more often
With
more whales present
Perhaps
to let the others know
A
big presence is arrived to contend with
For
certainly there’s nothing quite like

Whales
communicate with other’s of their pod
And

They
use skills and social order to make it all work
Just
as bees use circling and dancing to communicate
Food
sourcing and distance
Humpback
whales use their tales to say many
Things
as yet not all are known to man
Nature
must have it’s secrets too
It
is only right for life to be a little bit mysterious

For
all the bulk and size of humpback whales
It
stands to reason that they function as they do
Like

Graceful

Sliding

Majestic

Singing
songs that make God smile
