How does the Fatima prophecy tie in with this post?

Lucia dos Santos was 10 years old when she was
shepherding sheep on her family's land in Cova da Iria, outside Fátima, on 13th May 1917.
Together with her two younger cousins, Francisco
and Jacinta Marto, the children were suddenly taken aback by a bright flash of lightning on a serene, sunny day and had decided to turn home when they saw "a lady dressed in white, more brilliant than the sun."
With words of reassurance, the lady spoke to them,
telling them that she was "from heaven."
The lady went on to request that the children return to that same place for six consecutive months on the 13th day, to offer themselves to God, and to pray the Rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war.
News of the apparition soon spread throughout the
community, triggering mixed responses, including
disbelief - even from the children's own families.
On 13th June, the children returned as the lady
requested and bore witness to the second apparition.
Each month - with the exception of August, when the children were detained by the civic authorities - the young visionaries returned to the spot and
communicated the messages from the lady to an ever-growing crowd of believers.
The Miracle of the Sun
The apparitions reached a climax on 13th October 1917, when as many as 100,000 people gathered at Cova da Iria after hearing reports of the lady's promise of a miracle.
As the lady finally revealed her identity as the "Lady of the Rosary" and repeated her message that people must pray the Rosary, crowds reported a startling natural phenomenon.
On what had so far been a dark, rainy October day, the clouds broke to reveal the sun as a spinning disc in the sky. Some onlookers described the sun as "dancing," whilst others saw radiant colours and lights, before the sun suddenly careered towards the earth, before zig-zagging back to it's original position in the sky. The once-sodden ground was now dry, and the soaked crowds no longer had wet clothes.
Legacy As is usually the case with events such as these, the story of Fátima inspired a wave of faith - but also a great deal of skepticism.
Despite the differing opinions, the story of these
young visionaries and the apparitions has stretched across the world and still bring more than four million people to the shrine at Fátima each year, according to
Portugal Travel Guide.
On the centenary of the first apparition, Pope
Francis canonised Francisco and Jacinta Marto at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fátima. The siblings died in 1919 and 1920, as Our Lady had revealed in one of her apparitions, after falling ill in the 1918 influenza epidemic that swept across Europe.
Left alone as sole witness to the apparitions, Lucia
dedicated her whole life to God, beginning life as a
postulate with the Sisters of St Dorothy in 1925, before taking vows as a Carmelite in 1949, taking the name Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart.
She died at 97 years old on 13th February 2005.
The Secrets of Fátima-
On 13th July 1917, Our Lady's third visit to the children, three secrets or visions were revealed. The first was a vision of hell: or a "great sea of fire which seemed to be beneath the earth". Although Lucia reported that the vision lasted "but an instant," it had a profound effect
on the children, who began to "tremble with fear."
The second secret was a prophesy of the
Second World War. During the apparitions, Our Lady promises that the First World War would end soon but another world war would follow during the papacy of
Pope Pius XI (who died in 1939). Lucia said the lady told
her that "a night illuminated by a strange light in the sky" would be the sign that war was near.
On 25 January 1938, a remarkable aurora borealis lit up skies right across Europe and even as far as America. The following year, the world was once again plunged into war.
This secret also includes Our Lady's request
that Russia be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart, an act that has been carried numerous times since the apparition, most recently in 2022 when Pope Francis asked all bishops across the world to consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The third and final secret is perhaps the most
talked about and controversial. At the time of the
vision, Our Lady ordered the children not to reveal the third secret to anyone - other than Francisco, who was able to see but not hear Our Lady. Lucia stayed true to
this promise and chose to omit it from her 1941 memoir.
However, after becoming seriously ill in 1943 with
influenza - the same illness that killed her cousins -
Lucia thought she was close to death and she was
ordered by the Bishop of Leiria to write down the third secret, so there would be a record in the event of her death. Because of her Carmelite vows of obedience to her superiors, Lucia was unsure what to do but eventually wrote down the secret in a sealed envelope, saying it could only be opened in 1960, when it would be better understood, or on the event of her death, whichever came first.
The secret was kept from the world until 13th
May 2000, when it was revealed that the vision was
about the persecution of Christians in the 20th-
century that culminated with the failed assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II, which took place on 13th May 1981. The secret published by the Vatican read:
"I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.
After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave
out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'
And we saw in an immense light that is God, something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass
in front of it, a Bishop dressed in White. We had the impression that it was the Holy Father. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city
half in ruins and half trembling with halting step,
afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top ofthe mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and
arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand,
in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."
Many have contested the veracity of this third secret but the late Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that we must view these secrets through the lens of hope.
He said: "the purpose of the vision is not to show a film of an irrevocably fixed future. Its meaning is exactly the opposite: it is meant to mobilize the forces of change in the right direction.
"In other words, these secrets - and
the message of Fátima itself - must be used to help us shape our future to build lives of holiness and a legacy of peace.”

It is hard to think of two world figures more unalike and antithetical than Pope Francis and President Donald Trump. The former reality show star worships the rich and disdains the poor. The Argentine Jesuit calls capitalism “the worship of the ancient golden calf . . . returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose”. President Donald Trump has received criticism from Pope Francis as the 47th U.S. president is set to unleash his mass deportation plan.
The Holy Father weighed in on the anticipated operation, saying "if this is true, it is a disgrace." He added that it would impact the poor and the unfortunate, saying, "this won’t do. This is not the way to solve things. That’s not how things are resolved."
Francis' critiques came during an interview one day before Trump's formal swearing in to office. Afterward, he sent President Trump "cordial greetings" for his inauguration.
The Pope's remarks on the president's immigration plan prompted a strong reaction from Fox News contributor and theologian Jonathan Morris on FOX Business' "Varney & Co.," Tuesday.

A panel of scientists convened by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS) has made a passionate endorsement of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) for global food security and development. The statement, published in 16 languages in the 30 November issue of the journal New Biotechnology (http://www.ask-force.org/web/Vatican-PAS-Statement-FPT-PDF/PAS-Statement-English-FPT.pdf) is the result of a workshop held in the Vatican in May 2009, involving 7 members of the PAS and 33 outside experts. It states that “there is a moral imperative” to make the benefits of genetic engineering technology “available on a larger scale to poor and vulnerable populations who want them,” urging opponents to consider the harm that withholding this technology will inflict on those who need it most.
The panel's key recommendation is to free transgenic varieties “from excessive, unscientific regulation” that hampers agricultural progress by inflating the costs needed for crop R&D. Ingo Potrykus, a member of the panel and co-inventor of Golden Rice, who is at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is still waiting for its beta-carotene–enriched seeds to reach the fields and sees that decade-long delay as a bitter lesson for agricultural biotech. “There is lots of high-quality publicly funded research and lots of goodwill for public-private partnerships to use the technology for humanitarian ends, but nobody can invest a comparable amount of funds [to that spent by large agricultural firms]. It will be mandatory to change regulation if we have any interest in using the technology for public good and in the public sector and with nonindustrial crops.”
Influential people in developing countries—African bishops included—distrust GMOs as the tools of a plot by multinational corporations to make poor farmers dependent on multinational corporations. A 2009 draft document of the African Synod states that a campaign favoring agbiotech “runs the risk of ruining small landowners, abolishing traditional methods of seeding, and making farmers dependent on companies producing GMOs.” But Robert Paarlberg, an agricultural policy analyst at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, who attended the Vatican meeting, believes those wary of GMO varieties should have greater confidence in the capacity of their local political systems to keep intellectual property (IP) issues under control. “They need to understand that patent claims over transgenic seeds made in countries such as the US do not extend to Africa,” as Paarlberg argues that “national patent laws in Africa are more restrictive towards claims of IP.”
If more is not done to encourage public sector involvement in developing GMO products there is also a risk that transgenic product development might be restricted to those players able to cope with regulatory red tape and fees (that is, multinational companies). “The cause for the 'de facto monopoly' is neither the technology itself, nor the IP involved, nor lack of interest in [it] from the public sector. The only cause is present regulation,” says Potrykus.
The panel's statement calls specifically for a revision of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which deals with international trade in living GMOs. “Groups opposed to the technology used it as a vehicle to persuade governments in Africa to set in place European-style domestic regulatory systems regarding the approval of GMOs,” says Paarlberg. But Calestous Juma, professor of the practice of international development at Harvard University, is pessimistic that the Cartagena agreement may be revised to incorporate the Vatican group's recommendations. Juma, who was not involved in the meeting, suggests that communities should create their own treaties to support the advancement of the field. “Little will be gained from seeking to operate under a treaty that is so overtly hostile to innovation,” he says.
The group's conclusions do not represent the official Vatican position, the Holy See press office stressed. Yet Gonzalo Miranda, a bioethicist of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, believes its scientific authority should carry weight. “The Catholic Church encompasses different sensibilities on GMOs but the trend is toward a cautiously open attitude because evidence of benefits mounts as time goes by and harms don't materialize,” he argues. The proceedings of the study week are “an important indication that the Vatican continues to keep the matter under review and to listen to expertise. This is more than many leaders around the world have done and the Vatican should be commended,” says Juma.

A panel of scientists convened by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS) has made a passionate endorsement of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) for global food security and development. The statement, published in 16 languages in the 30 November issue of the journal New Biotechnology (http://www.ask-force.org/web/Vatican-PAS-Statement-FPT-PDF/PAS-Statement-English-FPT.pdf) is the result of a workshop held in the Vatican in May 2009, involving 7 members of the PAS and 33 outside experts. It states that “there is a moral imperative” to make the benefits of genetic engineering technology “available on a larger scale to poor and vulnerable populations who want them,” urging opponents to consider the harm that withholding this technology will inflict on those who need it most.
The panel's key recommendation is to free transgenic varieties “from excessive, unscientific regulation” that hampers agricultural progress by inflating the costs needed for crop R&D. Ingo Potrykus, a member of the panel and co-inventor of Golden Rice, who is at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is still waiting for its beta-carotene–enriched seeds to reach the fields and sees that decade-long delay as a bitter lesson for agricultural biotech. “There is lots of high-quality publicly funded research and lots of goodwill for public-private partnerships to use the technology for humanitarian ends, but nobody can invest a comparable amount of funds [to that spent by large agricultural firms]. It will be mandatory to change regulation if we have any interest in using the technology for public good and in the public sector and with nonindustrial crops.”
Influential people in developing countries—African bishops included—distrust GMOs as the tools of a plot by multinational corporations to make poor farmers dependent on multinational corporations. A 2009 draft document of the African Synod states that a campaign favoring agbiotech “runs the risk of ruining small landowners, abolishing traditional methods of seeding, and making farmers dependent on companies producing GMOs.” But Robert Paarlberg, an agricultural policy analyst at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, who attended the Vatican meeting, believes those wary of GMO varieties should have greater confidence in the capacity of their local political systems to keep intellectual property (IP) issues under control. “They need to understand that patent claims over transgenic seeds made in countries such as the US do not extend to Africa,” as Paarlberg argues that “national patent laws in Africa are more restrictive towards claims of IP.”
If more is not done to encourage public sector involvement in developing GMO products there is also a risk that transgenic product development might be restricted to those players able to cope with regulatory red tape and fees (that is, multinational companies). “The cause for the 'de facto monopoly' is neither the technology itself, nor the IP involved, nor lack of interest in [it] from the public sector. The only cause is present regulation,” says Potrykus.
The panel's statement calls specifically for a revision of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which deals with international trade in living GMOs. “Groups opposed to the technology used it as a vehicle to persuade governments in Africa to set in place European-style domestic regulatory systems regarding the approval of GMOs,” says Paarlberg. But Calestous Juma, professor of the practice of international development at Harvard University, is pessimistic that the Cartagena agreement may be revised to incorporate the Vatican group's recommendations. Juma, who was not involved in the meeting, suggests that communities should create their own treaties to support the advancement of the field. “Little will be gained from seeking to operate under a treaty that is so overtly hostile to innovation,” he says.
The group's conclusions do not represent the official Vatican position, the Holy See press office stressed. Yet Gonzalo Miranda, a bioethicist of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, believes its scientific authority should carry weight. “The Catholic Church encompasses different sensibilities on GMOs but the trend is toward a cautiously open attitude because evidence of benefits mounts as time goes by and harms don't materialize,” he argues. The proceedings of the study week are “an important indication that the Vatican continues to keep the matter under review and to listen to expertise. This is more than many leaders around the world have done and the Vatican should be commended,” says Juma.

19 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.”
“No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”
3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house.5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”
6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”
9 “Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
10 But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.11 Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.
12 The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,13 because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.”
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry[a] his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.
15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished.”
16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them. 17 As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!”

21 He said to him, “Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of. 22 But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it.” (That is why the town was called Zoar.[f])
23 By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land. 24 Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain,destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land. 26 But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord. 28 He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.
29 So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Sister Lucia dos Santos, one of the three children who witnessed the Marian apparitions at Fatima, died in 2005. But before her death, she predicted that the final battle between Christ and Satan would be over marriage and the family.
So says Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, who reports that the visionary sent him a letter with this prediction when he was Archbishop of Bologna, Italy.
This reported statement by Sister Lucia, expressed during the pontificate of Saint John Paul II, was revisited in 2016 by the Desde la Fe (From the Faith) weekly of the Archdiocese of Mexico, in the midst of the debate generated by President Enrique Pena Nieto, who announced his intention to promote same-sex marriage in this country.
The Mexican weekly recalled the statements that Cardinal Caffarra made to the Italian press in 2008, three years after the death of Sister Lucia.
On Feb. 16, 2008, the Italian cardinal had celebrated a Mass at the tomb of Padre Pio, after which he gave an interview with Tele Radio Padre Pio. He was asked about the prophecy of Sister Lucia dos Santos that speaks about “the final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan.”
Cardinal Caffarra explained that Saint John Paul II had commissioned him to plan and establish the Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family. At the beginning of this work, the cardinal wrote a letter to Sister Lucia of Fatima through her bishop, since he could not do it directly.
“Inexplicably, since I did not expect a reply, seeing as I had only asked for her prayers, I received a long letter with her signature, which is now in the archives of the Institute,” the Italian cardinal said.
“In that letter we find written: ‘The final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan will be about Marriage and the Family.’ Don't be afraid, she added, because whoever works for the sanctity of Marriage and the Family will always be fought against and opposed in every way, because this is the decisive issue. Then she concluded: ‘nevertheless, Our Lady has already crushed his head’.”
Cardinal Caffarra added that “speaking again with John Paul II, you could feel that the family was the core, since it has to do with the supporting pillar of creation, the truth of the relationship between man and woman, between the generations. If the foundational pillar is damaged, the entire building collapses and we're seeing this now, because we are right at this point and we know it.”
“And I am moved when I read the best biographies of Padre Pio,” the cardinal concluded, “about how this man was so attentive to the sanctity of marriage and the holiness of the spouses, even with justifiable rigor at times.”
